Far & High Adventure Travel is a Minnesota‑based tour operator specializing in small‑group journeys and custom private or independent tours throughout the Himalaya and Southeast Asia. Our partners, managers, guides, and field staff all have deep roots in Asia, they’re highly educated, professionally trained, and bring years of firsthand experience in the region. For us, travel isn’t just a business; it’s a way of life. We bring your itinerary to life with meticulous care, going above and beyond to make every journey seamless and unforgettable.
Our destinations span Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Mongolia. At Far & High, we strive to offer more than standard tourism. We’re constantly seeking newly opened, lesser‑visited regions, places off the beaten path where authentic discovery still thrives.
Our trips cover history, the arts and architecture, religion and culture, local festivals and events, nature and landscape, and soft to moderate adventures (e.g., jungle safaris, river rafting, hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering, etc.). Cultural tours are motor vehicle-based tours, but we also offer optional hikes and village visits. During our trips, you will have the opportunity to meet the locals, try local cuisine and attend local festivals and events. For those who want more active adventures, we offer rafting, mountain biking, trekking, jungle safaris and more.
How we travel
Our travel advisors bring decades of hands-on experience, deep industry knowledge, and an authentic passion for exploration. They have trekked the trails, stayed in the lodges, met the guides, and immersed themselves in the cultures you are dreaming of visiting.
We specialize in small-group travel and custom-crafted independent tours. All group departures are guaranteed with just two travelers, and we intentionally keep our groups intimate, typically fewer than ten people.
Our guides are locals who grew up on these streets, trails, and landscapes. Partnering with local guides creates meaningful jobs within the community and avoids the added cost of a Western trip leader.
All of our guides and support crews are trained in safety protocols and first aid. High-altitude itineraries are designed with time for proper acclimatization, and all drinking and cooking water is purified.
